a blind woman in a pandemic
Andrea Barnhurst is a woman who is blind in this pandemic. when asking her a few questions over the phone she says that shes coping okay with this pandemic its stressull but shes doing the best she can. Its hard along with challenging people don't really understand that the guide dogs don't know how to social distance nor what the marks mean on the floor. She hasn't been in a situation where people are treating her any differently than when the pandemic wasn't around. Now with the pandemic people arent helping her find things she needs in the stores now they just point and say " its over there." Whats getting to Andrea is the lack of socialization and the fact that she cant recognize anyone she knows in the masks, its also hard trying to wear glasses with the masks with the fact that they get foggy all the time. She fears going into a store alone with the struggles of social distancing with her depth reception gone, the lack of exposing her guide dog Bali in the stores. With walking outside with her guide dog there's less people around, she also says that the outside feels like indoors with the amount of people. her fears with this pandemic is catching COVID-19, getting exposed to someone who has COVID and not knowing it, exposing others. she feels like shes losing her independence because she cant go to stores and places like she did she always needs her daughter or husband to drive her there. She worries about the lack of activity level with her guide dog when the numbers get higher. She worries about her friends and family more than herself when it comes to COVID-19. She feels that there is a different energy in the air when shes walking with her guide dog, She doesn't exactly know what this energy is but she can tell that Bali is feeling stressed and concerned just by holding on to the leach. Andrea says its not easy trying to figure out where people are in the stores, maintaining social distancing is hard with her and the guide dog, and wearing masks makes her senses different than what they used to be. Her family is worried for her more than usual. what she is doing differently to keep her and her family safe is to wear a mask in public, work remotely, when she goes into a store she doesn't touch everything, washing her hands frequently, and minimizing her time in the stores.

Lyndsy Addario book report
Lyndsy Addario's book "its what I do a photographers life of love and war" one of the stories that she shared in her time on other countries was when she told her father to give her the money for her wedding so she could use it for her carrier because at the time she wasn't even thinking of getting married she was more focused on her career than love. where at the time before she got married to her husband paul her career was her love and still is even though she's married. I really liked this part of the story because it showed that she was not like the rest of her family that searched for love instead of a career they loved. she went the opposite of her whole family watching her mom struggle with bills after her father left her and their salon. the techniques that Addario used was a lot of moving with the light and respecting the fact that some people said no. she always carried more than one camera because she could get more with two cameras than she could get with one. when she went to a different country and needed to take pictures she sometimes had the model make the rules so she didn't step on any toes during the shoot. if I was in addition shoes of being a photojournalist I personally couldn't be a war photographer. the reason why I say that is because that's a lot of stress and responsibility to take pictures when people are risking there lives to save their country. I don't think she has a screw loose or anything because she is doing what she loves and that's what I want to do in my life. she wanted to be a war photographer to show what's really happening in these wars than what is portrayed. I was able to use some of the techniques she used like having your model make the rules so you don't push any boundaries. when I take pictures now of anyone I usually ask them what they want out of the pictures and what I shouldn't take pictures of for regulation reasons and personal reasons. when Addario was taking pictures of women giving birth she always asked if there was anything they didn't want pictures of and she would respect that. for example, many of the women didn't want there face shown, but the baby could be shown.
this specific picture stood out to me because its soldiers pulling one of there companions out of a situation after he got shot in an ambush. this picture really stands out to me because it shows how much we need to rely on each other especially during these times in war. Addario said a lot of things that were really inspiring but one of them really stood out to me and that was “Everything was silent. I took off clothes and stood naked on the balcony of my lonely room, under the stars. A woman. Naked. Outside. Under the talblan.” the reason why this stood out to me was that it shows that you can be strong during the day and during your job, but at night and after a long day of work she was still a woman, she was still vontable in ways that no one ever saw her as. if you like books like this i would recommend it to people because it does show a real story of what she went threw, but if you don't like these kinds of books i would not suggest reading it.

life of Thompson adult home
Thompson's adult home for physically and mentally disabled adults is run by Harold Thompson and his family. This home has been there since 1999 in Albany Oregon. he knew he wanted to be an adult care homeowner when he was a manager at another care home and he really enjoyed working there with the community and the people in the homes. at his care home, he has six employees, two of whom are his children.
Harold tries spending about half of the week at the group home and some extra times on the weekends with the guys. they do lots of trips with the homes including going to Florida many amusement parks, san Francisco, zoos, aquariums, seatle, and many more places. Harold took the patients to watch a bike race and helped clean up after the race by picking up all the tossed water bottles.
a lot of issues he handles at this home are staffing challenges, behavioral issues, lots of documentation that are required by the state and county, and serving medically fragile populations. he has six patients who live in the house full time with many different disabilities from fully functioning to not.
there are a lot of rules and regulations of having an adult home, there are of lot of training requirement for the staff and employees. everyone who works there must go threw a background check, a basic knowledge test and they have to swear to notify the authorities about any abuse. all significant incidents must be reported through a state website and verified by the case manager.
some regulations are that windows and doors must be safe for each resident and updated regularly. a yearly plan has to be developed for each resident and updated regularly. all medications must be locked up and signed for each time it is given. the whole home is required to have fire extinguishers, smoke detector alarms, a floor plan, house rules, a menu, and staff schedule.
watching Harold Thompson working with the patients was very enlightening to watch how to take care of people with many conditions and many different ages. I really liked following Harold around and asking questions about how he wanted to start this business in the first place.

Eli Whitaker
Eli Whitaker a 21-year-old sales associate at 711 has been working there for about a year and a half. His dream job would be an author since he loves to write short stories about funny stuff. one of his hardest challenges would be it's hard to get noticed/ recognized. His favorite place to go is his house because he doesn't like going out much. Elis prized possession would be the book he wrote. In his free time, he likes playing D&D with his friends and girlfriend, video games, and TV. He doesn't have a life goal. He likes the fact that Oregon isn't very populated. Eli is passionate about philosophy. Eli doesn't really have a role model or a hero. the happiest moment of his life was when his book got published. being a decently nice person is the most important thing to him. What inspires him is fun and not being bored at home all the time.
Eli's hobbies are playing D&D, gaming, and writing. His greatest fear is that the world is going to implode itself before he died. He doesn't know where he's going to be in 10 years at the moment. Eli likes watching star trek with his girlfriend Emily on his days off. The one thing he values is being a decent person and not being mean to everyone.

Carrie Mae Weems
Carrie Mae Weems was born on April 20th, 1953. In December 1969 Carrie gave birth to her first and only child Faith. Before she was a photographer she was many things, over her life she was dipping her interests into theatre and dance. in 1973 Carrie received a camera for her birthday and the following year she started going to school for photography at san Francisco city college and was there between 1973-1974. After going threw college she met a guy who associated with black photographers annually and eventually became an assistant for Anthony Barboza. in 1980 researchers and organizes exhibition on women in photography. In 1981 Carrie reserves a Batular of Fine Arts degree from California Institute of arts. one day Carrie Mae got serious about her research and started finding black artists and interviewing them and recording the conversations. in 1986 she met a man named Jeff Hoone. when she met him she felt a future with him of getting married but Jeff didn't feel anything towards her. Over time she got more and more into photography and got more degrees in art then anyone could ever imagine. many of her photos are now in galleries all over the world. in the 90`s she was in many different programs on PBS and books. in 2005 something tragic happened to Carrie Mae, her father died and she got heartbroken after it. over the next couple of years, many things happened in her life including her moving with her husband jeff and her daughter Faith turns 40 years old in 2009. in 2010 Michelle Obama visits the museum of modern arts and was moved by the photographs that Carrie took. Carrie has won many awards over the years she has been a photographer. Carries photography preference was black and white photos of African American lives.
Carrie Mae Weems's claim to fame would have to be how she shows the life of African American people in there every day lives because over the time she was born and grew up there was still segregation between black people and white. she used a black and white filter to show that black and white people aren't so different.
this is a picture that Carrie Mae Weems took called "Aint Jokin" 1987-1988 (credit to google)
this particular picture really interested me because it shows a black woman who is looking at a picture of a white woman. it shows that people aren't different like during this time of segregation was still around while the carrier was growing up and it affected her a lot. when this "ain't jokin" was taken segregation was over at the time, but Carrie wanted to make a point. why I liked this picture so much was because it's elegant and suttle with the design.
today in time Carrie Mae Weem is still alive and well. i hope shes still making photography in her free time and continues doing what she loves.

Self portrait
I'm Chrissy Veach and I am a student at Linn Benton Community College working on my art degree. I an art major, I have been at Linn Benton Community College for 3 terms now I am a freshman in college. having to go threw many things in my life from losing my grandma and my best friend during high school has made me look at life completely differently then I used to. the way I used to look at life as it was just something that gets taken away from us eventually, but the issue with that is life is so short and it could get taken from us so soon that you need to make every moment like it's you're last.
my degree means everything to me. my grandpa has always told me that if you work harder then the person next to you then they will look at they guy next to you and get ride of him because he's not working as hard as you are. ever since i was 7 i knew i wanted to do art for the rest of my life, it was what i was good at and made me happy. when i graduate with my degree i want to do one of two things: 1. open an art studio to get younger kids to get into art and see the joy in it... or 2. open my own store of art piece and try selling them.the tougher challenge with my degree is the math aspect of it. some of my requirements for my major is i need to pass math, welllll that's not a good subject with me. i haven't been good at math. i chose Linn Benton Comminuty College because it was the closest college to my highschool. my greatest moment of life was when i graduated highschool, even though my best friend and my grandma weren't there to enjoy it with me but I know they were there with me in spirit, my graduation was the greatest moment of my life because threw middle school and highschool I struggled a lot with failing grades and trying to understand what they were trying to teach me in school.
If I was famous I would honestly be famous for my art, like I said before I’ve been making art since I was little. The best part of Linn Benton Community College is the people I have met in my classes and meeting a lot of new people. I struggle making friends and meeting people who are art majors like myself is a really good way to meet new people who have the same interest as me.
I am 18 years old almost going to be 19 in August. My family is kinda different then most families, I have lived with my mom and my step dad for many years of my life because those were the people who were there for me. My dad wasn’t apart of my life he thought I was a mistake because he had me at 19. I have 3 sisters who are all younger I have a 17,16, and a 14 year old sisters. Even though I can’t see one of them I still love them with all my heart. My college experience is different then what I’m used to, but college is way different and better than high school. So far my favorite class in Linn Benton Community College is ceramics 1. I love seeing art worked with ur hands and you have the control of the clay. I struggle with math a lot because I am very right side of the brain and am not good with math, science or history. My dream job would be anything that is art, if I can get a job with anything thay is art that would be my dream job and I would be happy with it. My career goal is to get my degree and find a job that involves with art and make a living off of that. My life goal is to have my children ( when I have them) to not have the same life I have where my parents were split and one didn’t want to be apart of my life, I want them to have everything they want and not have to worry about money or if we have food for the month. Linn Benton has impacted my life because I am first generation college student who actually will graduate, Linn Benton is making my dream come to that I can do whatever I sent my mind to.
My role model is my mom. My mom has been legally blind since she was 15 years old. I have watched my moms vision get worse and worse threw out my years of life. My mom worked threw her blindness and has held a job till she couldn’t anymore. My mom has fought for my education and my love for art. My mom is also my hero because threw everything she’s went threw from my dad leaving, her mom and dad dieing she had kept a strong face and always told me. “ you can do whatever you want to do even if things get in the way.” The happiest moment of my life was seeing my mom get back up on her feet and getting another job after 10 years of not having one.
The greatest challenge of my life right now is balancing my work life, college life and my actual life. Having a full time job, having classes in college and still trying to be a teenager is hard. Getting called into my work because people won’t show up really is irritating because I need to get my school work done but I still come into my work taking people’s shifts because they won’t be there themselves. The hardest part of college right now is wondering how we are going to do finals online. My favorite place to go is the part near my house to just sit and take a breather from life

day one of blogging
life's been crazy during the coronavirus outbreak, being a college student and working a full-time job it been crazy. with a lot of works shutting down mine hasn't been shut down yet and it seems like the days get slower and faster depending on the day. its weird seeing myself, coworkers and the customers wearing masks. this virus has been effecting my normal life a bunch. my mom having a lower immune system due to chemo I have to worry about her getting the virus. my boyfriend's family owns a home for mentally and physically disabled adults, with working at a place where I could get exposed to this could put them at risk. this puts my stress higher then it needs to, but I'm working on helping people with what they need at my store and that's the part that counts is making sure people are healthy and getting what they need to live even if that beer and cigarettes.
